To Enter the Depth of the Grain

Dizzy digger counting every spoonful
It takes to excavate the heart’s deep ditch
Miles of smiles all the fine layers infinitely
Repeated a spiral staircase descending
Deeper than sub-atomic harmonies
O to come suddenly upon a soul set
Trembling beneath a veil of perfect
Meaning the ponderous light of summer’s
End the light found in beautiful countries
Where there are people without belief
Where hoodlums and scallywags frolic
Where angels believe only in sorrow where
Silence is a secret that leads to a great pit
Where so many flutter their useless wings
