The Day That Floods Every Horizon

Often I think of your voice waiting at the door
Careless of how much we are in person
Less than each of us believes the other to be
Whatever you see when you close your eyes
I am no longer afraid that the whole nation
Conspires against us we are what everybody
Exhorts now so beautifully hungry and hurtful
Why not the lavender silence we often share
Remember that we used to carry our hands
Toward our hearts to open the shoals of eternity
Whence we discovered our hidden mind
Outlined by God’s throwing knives O singular
Intelligence that we both share where great
Nocturnal lakes evaporate in our open hands
