An Afterlife Where No One Claims Us but Us

I’m sure we don’t know what we want in this
Poem but we never do when we start and
In that way it’s like making love the first time
Isn’t it?  To begin whisperingly with such soft
Adolescent breath and skin discovering skin
Unfamiliar fragrances mingling something
New and not so easily charmed an animal
Leaping and remarkable beneath a purpling
Sky feeling the vehement strength of what?
What spent purpose? What perfectly insane
But marvelous choice?  At this point don’t we
Always say it would be nice to go away
Somewhere warm with strange aromas? We
Are speaking truths we should listen to us
